The Herron School of Art and Design ranks at a prestigious 45th position among the 300 art and design schools around the world. Located within the Indiana University campus, the school enrolls a huge number of students in its visual communication design, art education, art history and fine arts programs. Herron also houses the Herron Galleries that exhibit modern artworks by national and regional artists. The Basile Center for Art, Design and Public Life features inter-disciplinary and educational activities by way of community partnerships and civic engagement.

The degrees that are offered in the Herron School of Art and Design are BA Fine Arts, BA Arts, BA Art Education, MA Art Education and MA Fine Arts in the disciplines of visual communication, sculpture, furniture design and print making.

The school got shifted to its new building in the IUPUI campus in the year 2005. This facility is 169,000 sq. ft. in area and includes an auditorium which can accommodate 250 people, a 5500 sq. ft. library, a 4200 sq. ft. gallery space and many computer labs. Students can also enjoy the 10-week Saturday School of Herron in which several classes are offered in different subject areas like drawing, ceramics, painting, graphic design and comic design. Students of any level from beginner to professionals are welcome to join these classes.
