The Indiana Historical Society aims at preserving and representing the history of Indiana by way of historical resources, publications, activities and educational programs. The William Henry Smith Memorial Library of the society houses abundant resources of Indiana's history in the form of manuscripts, visual and printed materials, digital images, cataloged maps, photographs, artifacts and paintings.

The society runs a special Historic Document Preservation Program which aims at keeping the physical position of the historical evidences intact. Several exhibits, programs and events are also organized by the Indiana Historical Society throughout the year and if you are on your Indianapolis travel and want to know more about the history of Indiana, then the best way is to visit some of these exhibits.
Founded in the year 1830, it has been a popular venue for private and public events. The location, elegance and classic decor of the building makes it an ideal location for any social event or a wedding party. With several rental spaces including the Gibson Boardroom, Emison Room and Corson Room, the building is able to accommodate any size of meeting, seminar or private party. The building also has a parking lot for 135 vehicles that will be provided to the guests of the event.

Several educational programs are also organized throughout the year by the Indiana Historical Society including Adult and Family programs, Traveling exhibits and local history services. An Indiana Junior Historical Society is also created for children from grades 3 to 12. A National History Day is also held every year in Indiana through which people are encouraged to explore the history of Indiana.
