The museum organizes several special programs which give an opportunity to the visitors to explore medicines and their history. The Indiana Medical History Museum is the oldest pathology facility in the world which has 3 labs, one autopsy room and the medical artifacts from 19th-20th centuries.

There is a display which is related to the Civil War and the visitors are allowed to view the actual kits used for amputation and the ether bottles. When you go to the museum, you will come to understand the exact factors and diseases that caused such a massive number of deaths in the Civil War. The 'Truth about Germs' program gives you in-depth knowledge of how germs are responsible for producing certain diseases, what is their history and theory. You will also get to know some of the great scientists, doctors and researchers of the times such as Joseph Lister, Ignazz Semmelweiss, Louis Pasteur and Robert Koch.

The 'Milestones in Mental Health' is a display program which features all things related to mental health. The medicines of Lithium and Thorazine will be discussed and how they are effective in care and treatment of mentally ill people. After taking a tour of the museum, do not forget to see the medicinal garden. There are 90 different kinds of herbs, vines, annuals and medicinal plants in the garden and you will come to know what are their roles and history in the medical prescriptions and treatment procedures.
