Indianapolis Art Center is a classic example of the adage - ‘Necessity is the mother of invention’. During the Great Depression in 1930’s, USA reeled under enormous economic pressure. There was no money, and more importantly no employment available to the Americans. Many relief institutions opened up then to provide breathing space to the citizens. Indianapolis Art Center was one such institution. It opened up in 1934.
Its aim was and still is to bring in the raw talents of Indianapolis, Indiana and USA to the foreground. Their artistry is not pruned by any means. There is space for classical art, contemporary art and even bizarre art. Metalwork exhibits stand shoulder to shoulder wit folk art and glass work. Pottery and sculpture gems are also displayed with elan in the art center. Indianapolis Indiana travel is colorless without a peep into this brilliant place.
