As far as the Indianapolis museum visiting is concerned, most of the museums are located near the downtown area only and are within close distance to each other. There are several museums in the city of Indianapolis and they are one of the reasons why Indianapolis travel and tourism industry is flourishing rapidly.

The Children's Museum of Indianapolis is the largest museum for children in the world. It also features a Dinosphere in which real artifacts and fossil digs of dinosaurs are displayed. The Indianapolis Museum of Art features pre-20th century American and European art work on the main floor, non-Western artwork on the 2nd floor and modern art from artists such as Vito Acconci and James Turrell on the 3rd floor. Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art house a great collection of artifacts from Native Americans and also Western American sculptures and paintings. The Indiana State Museum has been located within the White River State Parkl, housing several historic exhibits from pre-historic times till today.

NCAA Hall of Champions is also a museum, conference center and exhibition center located near the NCAA National Office. James Whitcomb Riley Museum Home is a historical building named as National Historic Landmark in the year 1962. Conner Praire is located in Fishers, Indiana and serves as a living history museum, preserving the home of William Conner and recreating Indiana's life in 19th century along the White River. The Indiana Medical History Museum is the oldest pathology laboratory in US that is still surviving. It was included in the National Register of Historic Places in the year 1972.
