Over the last few years, Indianapolis has come out to be known as a major music center of US. The city of Indianapolis hosts the Drum Corps International, Inergy, Indianapolis Music for All, Indy's Official Musical Ambassadors, International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, Percussive Arts Society, Indy Jazz Festival and American Pianists' Association.

Starting from the year 1999, the city of Indianapolis accepted to become the host of the Indy Jazz Festival every year. This festival is a 3-day event that is held in the Military Park nearby the canal. The past stars that have performed include Aretha Franklin, B B King, Bruce Hornsby, Kool and Gang, Bela Fleck and Flecktones, Ray Charles, Norah Jones, Jonny Lang, Emmylou Harris, Dave Brubeck and The Temptations. Some other local and regional favorites have also been a part of this annual festival.

Indianapolis also serves as a home to the Bands of America which is a nation-wide organization of concert, jazz bands and high school marching. The city also hosts several events of BOA every year. Drum Corps International is a professional association of bugle and drum corps whose purpose is to change the life of people from 13 to 21 years of age through art of music marching. Summer Music Games are also held throughout Canada and US in August in which the competitors have to achieve the extreme levels of music and marching.

A large number of concerts also take place in Indianapolis throughout the year and some of the most renowned personalities have performed here.
