If you are on your Indianapolis travel, then you must know that the city of Indianapolis has a widespread system of Municipal Park with approximately 200 Indianapolis parks within the boundaries of the city. These parks occupy more than 10,000 acres of city's land which equals to 40 km2 area. A Municipal Park is meant for offering green space and recreation area to the visitors and residents of a city and it is operated and maintained by the government on a local level. The Government may also hire a private company to take care of the park.

The flagship Eagle Creek Park is the biggest Municipal Park in Indianapolis and is one of the biggest urban parks in the US. Other regional parks in Indianapolis include Garfield Park which was established in the year 1881 and is believed to be the oldest park of Indianapolis. The White River State Park is located just west of the downtown area and offers several educational, recreational and cultural attractions.
It also has waterways and trails, making it a worth seeing park in the city of Indianapolis. Other Parks that you must visit on your visit to Indianapolis are Riverside Park located near the West Side, Sahm Park located on the north-east side, Southeastway Park and Southwestway Park.
Fort Harrison State Park is a favorite park among people who love to be on the outdoors and become a part of the most enthusiastic outdoor activities. The park has several picnic shelters, biking and hiking trails and nature center and in winters, visitors can also enjoy ice fishing and cross country skiing. This park has a very big sledding hill also which skiing enthusiasts will just love.
There is also a Saddle Barn in the Fort Harrison State Park which offers pony rides, hay rides and trail rides and also riding lessons. The Saddle Barn at Fort Harrison State Park in Indianapolis offers trail rides, pony rides for younger children, riding lessons, and hayrides. In addition to that, Indianapolis also has a forestry program recognized by the Tree City USA standards of National Arbor Day Foundation.
