
Things You Should Know about Indianapolis Motor Speedway: History, Speed Records, and Schedule
Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the first racing circuit in US established in 1909. This motoring circuit facilitates high speed racing with a capacity of 400,000 patrons seating outside and inside the field. This is the largest racing arena in the entire world. The Indianapolis 500 Mile Race is held in this track and both the track and the race have completed 100 years of excellence.
The Red Bull Indianapolis GP also is held on the 2.621 miles track and the Brickyard 400 and Indianapolis 500 use the 2.5 mile track. This track has been the favorite race ground for various racing legends including Unser, Rossi, Schumacher, Harroun and Gordon. The first motorcycle race took place on 14th August.
Some of the legendary sportspersons have made history at this ground with high speed. Driver Arie Luyendyk recorded an average speed of 385.052km per hour and completed a single lap. Casey Mears recorded a speed of 299.782 km per hour for 1 lap. Michael Schumacher recorded a speed of 204.665 k m per hour for completing 73 laps and Jorge Lorenzo completed 28 laps in a record speed of 149.976 km per hour.
The Indianapolis 500 takes place every year during the month of May, the Red Bull Grand Prix championship takes place on August and the Brickyard 400 takes place on the month of July. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway also has a golf ground of 18 holes known as the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course and a museum which records the history of speed racing known as the Hall of Fame.
